Why Seahorses Are Peculiar but Very Interesting Pets
One of the most popular and well-recognized fishes in the sea are seahorses. This is primarily because of their physical features. They are indeed the most peculiar and different-looking fish in the entire marine world. And if you are interested in setting up a seahorse stable, then there are a few things that you need to be aware of.
Seahorses will need to be in waters with 1.020 to 1.025 of salinity. You can check this with a hydrometer. You can work with 15-gallon tanks with larger seahorses. And 5-gallon tanks can house about 50 dwarf seahorses. It is important that you get enough filtration of the water.
One of the best things about this specie is they do not mind if they live in cramped spaces. Unlike other marine fishes, a seahorse can easily adapt to the living conditions it is exposed to. It can easily withstand a 10-degree temperature change in the environment as long as it is gradual.
You have to make sure that you feed seahorses brine shrimp that are newly hatched. You can purchase these at the Perry’s Aquatic Centre. You also have to be aware of the growth of ich on this specie. Since they have an armadillo-like armor to them, they become oblivious to the disease. Make sure that you keep your tank well-maintained to avoid any growth of ich on your pets. And the armor also causes the seahorse to be oblivious to parasites. You can simply take the parasite out with tweezers. And make sure that you do this immediately.
Please do not take note of what is in this article seahorses need at least a 30-gallon tank for two seahorses, brine shrimp are not suitable please feed Mysis shrimp preferably enriched!
